Chicago, Feb. 17.
Mr. Herbert Hoover, former President of the United States, announced last night that the British and German Governments were considering a plan by which 1,000,000 Belgian adults and 2,000,000 children would be fed 50,000 tons of foodstuffs monthly through soup kitchens.
Mr. Hoover, who made the announcement in nation-wide radio speech, said the plan was proposed by a "Committee on Food for the Small Democracies."
The former President stressed that the plan must be regarded as an "initial experiment and test as to whether these people can be saved without military advantage to either side."
"The proposal includes specifications that the "German Government agrees there will be no acquisition of native food and both Governments will give relief ships immunity from attack." The programme, he said, woul€ be "under the supervision and checks of some neutral body."—United Press.
