Spurred by the huge Navy Department orders placed to build up a two-ocean navy, all maier shipyards not only are operating at capacity but are actively expanding existing facilities to speed up the shipbuilding program. In most instances, the additional facilities are being built with Government funds, and the Navy will retain ownership.
