The assassination of Mr. Kao Tse-yuen, proprietor of a medicine shop at 862 Avenue Edward VIL. on April 28, still unsolved, was believed to have inspired, another mystery, committed by two Russians and two Chì- nese on Sunday moming when they took Mr. Tsiang Maung-nyoeh. accountant of the shop, from his home in Kwangse Road.
According to investigations carried out, the two Russians, one of them armed with a pistol, and their Chinese accomplices presented themselves at Mr. Tsiangs home at 11/20 Kwangse Road at 6.25 am. on Sun day} and told him that they were members of the Shanghai Municipal Police, sent there to take him to police headquarters for questioning.
Without suspecting any sinister motives of the quartet, Mr. Tsiang left the house with them, but failed to return, His disappearance was discovered by the police. when a party of constables, operating in the area, heard about the strange case from people living in the same as the missing than. This was re ported to the station and detectives started investigations. which proved that the man had not been taken to police headquarters.
The disappearance of the accountant was linked together with the murder of his employer ten days ago. and it was believed that he had been taken away because he knew too much with regard to the assassination of Mr. Kao. The latter, it be recalled, was foully murdered on Avenue Edward VII on April 23. The deceased was not known to have had any political affiliations and it was thought that the murder had been committed on personal grounds.
Tt was learned that the deceased had had a misunderstanding with certain labour unions and that th might have been the cause for the crime. The fact that Tsiang knew about this, might have caused the murderers of his late employer to hold him for a while and thus force him to keep quiet about the whole affair.
