Week of Notable Speeches

Mr. A. Morley Reviews Progress of War; Full Confidence in Ultimate Outcome.

HIS week has been one of notable speeches, declared Mr.

Alfred Morley last night in a speech over Station XCDN, reviewing the progress of the war since last Friday. There was Hitler's hate-ridden tirade, speeches by Col. Stimson, Col. Knox, Churchill, and Mr. van Kleffens, the Netherlands Foreign Minister. Meanwhile there was a growing feeling in the United States in favour of increased and more definite aid to Britain. Mr.

Morley said:—

We have just entered upon the} st month of the war to preserve civilization's greatest gifts, and we ourselves at what may be a sive stage. We see an inereascrystallization of thought and action—great forces gathering and moving towards the inescapable climax of a struggle which will decide nothing less than the destiny f the human race. maybe for centuries to come. If Hitler's spring offensive is in ful swing. the chal-'erizo which it constitutes is being taken up with increasing vigour and determination. He rides high, he elivers a truculent challenge to all the rest of the world, he can boast of successes and prepare for new assaults, but he cannot escape the world's rejection of his crazy dream that it will bow down. or be broken down. to acknowledge him Huru Overlord. His monster military machine, feeding uran the industrial and human resources of Europe which it has enslaved. might appear in Berlin to be beyond successful challenge or hindrance in its chosen paths, but it was none other than Napoleon who said that when the Sword is matched by the Spirit it the Spirit which will always prevail. The Spirit is coming to full flower.
