Four gangsters were arrested and two pistols were seized by the Hongkew police station yesterday morning at about 820 o'clock following an alarm raised by an inmate of 64 Lee Zung Fong in Arthur Road.
The gang, five strong and in possession of two pistols, entered the house and intimidated the occupants with the pistols, stealing money, clothing and valuables. One of the inmates, however, managed to escape and raised the alarm. A police party attended and arrested the four men.
No shots were fired by either side.
The value of the loot, stolen by the gangster who had escaped, could not be ascertained yesterday Four other thieves were arrested by Central police station on Tuesday following the apprehension of one of the gang by a C.P.C. on duty at the corner of Hankow and Kiangse Roads. The policeman kept up his observation and soon saw a man appear with three rolls more.

In the second case M. Bordes. through his counsel, alleged that considerable sums had been squandered belonging to the Auditorium and asked the court to order M. Bouvier, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Auditorium. to declare on oath that he has not received any special remuneration monthly in his capacity as chairman of the board. besides the remunerations sanctioned under the bye-laws of the company. He also asked M. Bouvier to declare on oath that he had not received the high cost of living allowance which he alleged had been paid to some of the directors and that he had not received from third parties in connection with the Auditorium any special gratuity as a personal remuneration. without the approval of the general meeting. The action, counsel plained. was directed against M. Bouvier both in his personal capacity and as chairman of the board.
M. Premet contended at the worst a social and not an individual or personal action could lie against M. Bouvier. The first two attestations which plaintiff counsel asked M. Bouvier to make. he submitted. were questions which already had been dealt with fully in the previous action. On the third point of whether he had received a personal remuneration, counsel labelled this a defamation against the character of M. Bouvier. The suggestion and allegations had been advanced, he submitted. without a whit of evidence being called in its support. The onus. he said. was on plaintiff to produce the persons who had paid the remunerations alleged to M. Bouvier J.C. W.O.
