Washington, May 18.
President Roosevelt late yesterday declared that dictator nations already have achieved serious economic en-rolement of the United States and summoned all Americans to fight against economic slavery to which, he alleged, Germany and her Allies would subject the world.
In a formal statement opening For-in Trade week from May 18 to May 24, the President said the United States swiftly was moving into a world wide crisis "of truly desperate intensity."
Aggressors are menacing the national, social, spiritual and economic structure of America, he said.
Totalitarian victory in the struggle would leave the world in a state of economic serfdom, with international commerce "rigorously controlled for the sole advantage of those nations and ruling groups which already have declared their determination to conquer the world and subordinate to their own profit the welfare of all other people."
"It is idle for us to talk of future foreign trade unless we now are ready to defend the principles upon which it is and must be based," President Roosevelt said.
"That defence calls most urgently on every American for his immediate and utmost effort," the President said. "Both now and after the emergency shall have passed, the United States must continue its leadership in preservation and promotion of liberal economic policies.
"Only through that leadership can this country fulfill its responsibility of rebuilding world economy from the chaos into which it has been plunged by destructive trade restrictions born largely because of ruthless aggression."—United Press. sion, the Their firing, Suner Resignation Denied by Madrid Madrid, May 18.
