America to Ask Release of Zamzam Passengers

Washington, May 21.

The State Department has cabled the U.S. Embassy at Berlin for information as to the whereabouts of the American passengers of the Zamzain. which was sunk by a German surface raider. it was announced last night.

The move apparently was prepar-tory to the United States demanding the surrender of the American survivors who have been taken to a western French port, according to Berlin.

The United States probably will ask that the Americans be released promptly and that arrangements be made for their transportation home.

With relations between Germany and the United States strained, Germany was not expected to resist the American demands.

Because the Germans, according to all reports thus far, had closely" followed international law in sinking the Egyptian steamer, the United States as not expected to make any protest against the sinking of the Vessel.—United Press
