Estimate of Total

Axis Plane Losses

London, May 21.

The Axis and its allies have lost a total of 12,635 planes, constituting the more/'substantial part of a year's production, while the British have lost 2,019 planes to date from the start of the war, estimates based on official reports showed today.

"Enemy planes" shot down over Britain throughout the war totalled 3,498, and in Germany and German-occupied territories 1,333. In the Scandinavian campaign, the British shot down 56 craft and destroyed 2,694 over the Western Front, The Planes destroyed in combat and on the ground in the Middle East by British action totalled 2,000.

All of these losses were based on official reports of certain destruction and therefore do not include planes destroyed in forced landings, bombed aerodromes, ete.

Another fifteen per cent, additional losses could be added for crashes, etc., which would be a conservative estimate.

Britain lost 881 planes over the British Isles, 644 over the continent, 378 at the Western Front, 55 in the Scandinavian campaign, 38 at sea and 23 in the Middle East—United Press.
