Scots Form Backbone

Of Home Guard

With the Army of the Scottish Command, June 20.

Shepherds, chilies, game-keepers and deer-stalkers who guard Scotland's mountain back-bone against an air invasion are the elite of Great Britain's Home Guard which numbers 1,500,000 men.

Mobilized in the North Highland area, they cover the biggest single defence unit in all England. Compared to the Home Guard organizations of London, the capital's suburbs and other thickly populated areas, they constitute a small force, But almost to a man, they shoot like Kentucky mountaineers and as a group form one of the strongest guerilla forees which could be assembled anywhere in the world.

"There's nothing likely to move in the mountains without their knowing about it," officers claim, adding that "they really would not waste many bullets."—United Press.
