To the Editor of the "Nonru-Cunia Dany News!
Sm—I have seen and read a lot of letters to you on the subject of floods In the Western Area. and T would Uke to make. the following sugges tions, though. of course, T know they will-not be carried out When one sees water on the road it is natural thata common sense person would try to find a dry: spot Art to cross over before ov fo wade through the water to get across. On Vu Yuen and Tifeng Roads those living around that district have no other option or other route to take but Vu Yuen and Tifeng Roads, and will always come to stumbling block when the rainy se son, high tide, and floods take place, Tt is {o be presumed that all creeks and drains are ful} and cannot take the extra load off the roads. There fore. one has only the protection of buying a pair of gum boots to allow one to wade over as near to one's home as possible and not get wet.,.|T really refer to pedestrians who are not ina position to pay out exorbifant travelling expenses per day, while the flood exists.
Could some sort of erection be made on either side of the road, on the footpath, using the walls of houses as support, and erect a bridge for destrians to cross over in single or double file, thus relieving congestion on Tifeng and Vu Yuen Roads? The bridge need not be very bikh, soy, a foot or two higher than the existing water level.
When the flood subsides the erec= tions could be removed, and trame resumed as formerly. The other sug gestion has been requested ears ago, raise the road, but as this involves an enormous expenditure to the Council, T should imagine the cree tion of a wooden bridge of some sort would meet the situation. Diverting of vehicle tram to other roads where there are-no floods could be attended to by the police! Surely if tone went for a country walk and found the creek running across one's path, one wouldn't go home to get fofie's gum boots and wade through the crock to get' to the other One's first objective is to find a bridge to cross over, and it would not be very far off. Why not a bridge of sorts on Vu Yuen Rond? 1 wonder if this was never thought of before?
