Senator Mon C. Wallgren, Democrat of Washington, yesterday said that Japan was violating an agreement with the United States by sending boats into Alaskan waters restricted to use by American fishermen.
Senator Wallgren, in a letter to the State Department, protested against the alleged violation and enclosed photographs of Japanese vessels. He said the pictures were taken on the spot.
The Senator said that "reliable evidence shows the boats entered the restricted waters during the summer months."
The Japanese vessels, he said, were a point between the Pribiloff islands and Kuskokwin Say. Japanese fishermen fished from small boats based on a larger boat.
"Alaskan fisheries are worth more than all the gold ever taken from Alaska, Senator Wallgren's letter said. "The Japanese probably need fish for their armies"—United Press.
