No Other Choice

After very careful consideration during which members of the Committee were satisfied that efforts had been exhausted to better premises for the Library, the Committee unanimously recommend-td to the Council that the Public Library be removed to the top floor of the Foochow Road Market building, 567 Foochow Road.

In arriving at this decision members of the Library Committee placed on record that they did so only because they had no other choice: and that they do not regard the proposed site as altogether suitable and it is their wish that the Library be housed in or near the Administration Building as soon as possible.

It is not however possible at the moment to house the Library in the Administration Building and since a move must now be made and there is no other suitable alternative accommodation avallable at the present time, the Council has approved the recommendation of its Library Committee that the Library be removed to the top floor of the Foochow Road Market building. The entrance to the new premises will be from Foochow Head and the Library will be served by a lift The new quarters are spacious and appear to be adaptable.
