Transcript
- This is Measured. Today: the Yangtze River Delta, China's largest regional economy.
- The Yangtze, China's longest river, runs for about six thousand three hundred kilometres. It meets the East China Sea at Shanghai.
- The region around its mouth is made of four provincial-level divisions: the city of Shanghai, and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui.
- Jiangsu alone produced more than twelve point eight trillion yuan of output in twenty twenty-three. Shanghai and Anhui each produced about four point seven trillion.
- At its mouth is the busiest container port in the world. The port of Shanghai handled forty-nine point two million TEU in twenty twenty-three, the top spot it has held since twenty ten.
- Shanghai opened to foreign trade as a treaty port in eighteen forty-three.
- In nineteen ninety, Pudong, across the river from the Bund, was made a special development zone.
- In twenty nineteen, the central government published its plan to integrate the delta's economy: to join its transport, energy and markets so that its forty-one cities work as one.
