The Report vf the P. ud O. Company states that the net surplus for the year, ineludii £4,820 brought forward, amounts to £179,184 7s. 11d., which, after deduct ing the interim dividend of 2} per cent. on the preferred und 3% per cer on the} deferred stock paid in June last, admits of a farther payment of 2} per cent, on the preferred and G$ per cent. on the deferred stock, making with the interim dividend paid' in June, 10 per cent, on the latter stock for the year. It is hoped that the first of the new vessels, the Himalaya, witl be ready to commence work next spring, the second vessel, the Australia, following in time for the autumn passenger season. Of the five other new vessels (which are more in the character of cargo vessels), the Aden would have been on the active list by this time, but for some damage which she sustained in being {tannched, which will delay her delivery until the end of the year. "The four other vessels, viz, the Java, Manila, Malucea and Formosa, should all be at work during the course of next summer.
