Changes in the Medical Department

I am sorry to say that Dr. Ayres, the Colonial Surgeon, continues ill, and has, in consequence, not yet taken up his duties as Colonial Surgeon, Dr. Atkinson continuing to act as such. Dr. Marques, Medical Offi cer to the Gaol, has retired, and Dr. John Bell, formerly practising with Dr. Jordan, has been appointed in his place. Dr. Marques was, on the Sth inst. made the recipient of an address and a handsome souvenir (consisting of a fine silver bow! on a blackwood stand) from the Police Force, Magistracy and Supreme Court statis. The address is highly appreciate shows that Dr. Marques had confidence and esteem of those among whom he laboured.
