Socially the sensation of the week has been the inquest on Mrs. Uzielli, a wealthy stockbroker's wife, whose death is alleged to have been caused by an illegal operation Performed by Dr. William "Maunsell collins, a well-known ex-Army surgeon, who had to sever his connection with the Horse Guards Blue and was removed from the register of qualified medical men some time ago over a scandal of quite another kind, "Phe unfortunate woman appears to have had no motive for subjecting herself to the terrible risk which she is alleged to have incurred with fatal result, beyond that of avoiding domestic responsibilities which would have interfered with her social pleasures; and it is in this feature of the case that the interest centres, for this is declared to be by no means as uncommon a phase of society life as might be supposed.' Dr. Collins has been arrested and charged with the crime, and pending the completion of the inquest he will not, as at present determined, be admitted to bail.
