The robbers, it appeared, carried away considerable sun of money, valuables and expensive fur clothing, but before they had got off entirely the memorialist at the head of his gendarmes cut off their retreat, when a fight occurred. Many of the gendarmes were wounded, but they succeeded in capturing four of the band. Such armed robberies and within the very shadow of the Throne are audacious and reckless in the extreme, and the severest punishment should be' given to these daring brigands, as a warning to other desperados. We hereby command that the four prisoners be handed over for trial and punishment to the Board of Punishments and that strict search be made for the rest of the band. Let no one escape the meshes of the law.
