The Peiyang Squadron

The-above fleet, reported in your columns some three weeks ago as having lett Taku for Kinochou Buy, is still lying to under the protection of the Mixotan and adjacent islands just north of the city. Natives report one of the vessels as having suffered severe injuries during the heavy blow of the teenth and sixteenth instant, but the report needs confirmation. The situation though is not an ideal one, especially for cruisers too large to take safely into Hope Sound, but if the fleet wishes to remain in the north during the winter, and at the same time enjoy the freedom of a private anchorage, Admiral Yeh will find it difficult to secure a better place. At present there only one foreigner, an. English engineer, on board the fleet.
