TRE LATE MME. LIMOUSIN

A woman who, without being beautiful, rich, intelligent, or virtuous, managed to lay a prominent part in contemporary rench history, has just expired miserably in the hospital. Mme. Limousin, as she was called, was the presiding ' genius, twelve years ago, of a salon which was the entre of an active trade in decorations.

consideration of an honest brokerage, this lady undertook to appease the longings of many of her fellow citizens to wear a bit of red ribbon in their button hole. When her accomplice, General Caffarel, the second in command of the army staff, was unlucky enough to be found out, Mme.

imousin appeared side by side with him in the dock, and the expose which followed led to the disclosure of MI. Wilson's operations in the same line of business and the resignation of his father-in-law, President Grévy. While the scandal was fresh in the public mind, the Limousin kept a cafe in Montmartre and did well for some time. Then came another crash and she ved for good. General Caffarel rided his career as acroupierin an American gambling-hell. It is to be hoped that the lady was prudent enough to bequeath her memoirs to somebody who knows how to make use of them. Nowadays, no one who has been mixed up in a real. high-class scandal has any right to die without satisfying the public curiosity.
