Sin,—I was very much surprised in reading, in a leading article of one of your contemporaries of the 19h instant, certain statements bearing on the state of affairs in Tientsin, which are represented as having been made by me.
T take this opportunity of absolutely repudiating the assertion that Iam respon sible for any such statements.
