GERMANY'S PETROL

SUPPLIES

Not the least important service of Germany's petrol supplies. large part of these, some 275,000 tons a year, have been obtained hitherto from' Galicia, This stock is now to all intents and purposes cut off, a loss which is compelling Germany to look elsewhere, According to recent issue of the "Manchester Guardian," & paper which does not jump to conclusions the loss from America through Denmark and Sweden, Ths London correspondent of the "Now York Times" appears to think it highly probable that what he calls the mysterious and important" visit of Lord Haldane, Lord Reading and Mr. Lloyd George to the Continent was direct ly connected with this trade. Clearly, if it is being carried on, it has got in some way or other to be stopped. That President Wilson will give the British Government all the assistance in his power may be taken for granted. It is, however, not easy to check the trade from that end for, as between America and Scandinavian countries, it is perfectly justifiable.
