There was again some demand in the market yesterday. The were unchanged and were lined to be easy at the close. Silver improved yd.
During the week the rates improved from 2s. 3d. for T.T. to %s. ad. This rise was partly due to the rise in silver and partly also to the export paper and absence of demand in the market. For the first time after a long interval, the T. T. rate has remained above parity during the past two days. At the close, however, there was a slight falling off in export paper and some demand, mostly speculative, making the market slightly weak.
During the week silver advanced from 3d. to 234d., then dropped to 37rd. and improved again to 23}d. yesterday. The improvement in silver is reported to be due to some small Indian buying and also a little buying for China—in spite of the heavy local stocks.
The import trade has again -become dull; but facilities for export are improving daily.
The stock of silver in the banks yesterday was composed of Tls. 57,550,000, $22,040,000 and 194 bars; of this total the native banks, including the Bank of China, Bank of Communications and the Commercial Bank of China, held between them Tls. 3,910,000 and $7,660,000.
