As was generally anticipated the June settlement of the Shanghai Stock Exchange was carried through easily and speedily on Tuesday. In some quarters the remark was made that the settlement was small in volume, but this was only by comparison with the very heavy amounts which had to be financed when gambling was at its height during the inflation period. 'nquiries showed that the settlement: was of a substantial size, but thanks to the conservative character of- the business carried on during recent months, there was no ditliculty in concluding the necessary arrangements.
