The Annual Meeting of the above Club was held atthe Lower Boat House on Wednesday evening, Mr, EH. C. Pearce in the Chair.
The Secretary read the notice convening the meeting.
The Chairman—The report and accounts have now been in your hands for four or five days days and I will not. read them. We have, on the whole, had a success ful year; we have had the record number of 64 new members during the year, which speaks well for the popularity of the Club, The report gives a record of the regattas and the picnic, In the accounts you will notice that the commencement of the sex sun we had a credit balance of 'T's, 9,200,
balance was Ts. 9.400—Tls, 200 mere. 7 At the finish of the year our credit daresay you will have noticed thnt the accounts have been debited with the cost of some joists for the new building. Your next treasurer will delete that from these, and of course it will £ into the cost of the new Boat House. The Committee thought it desirable to purchase some cups at Hung Chang's auction at a cost of Tls. 167.50—cups which I hope you will all compete for during the year. is another item, Tls. 130, for erection of the temporary. dressing room in which you are now sitting. The dressing room and the cups will not, of course, appear in next year's accounts, Dedueting the cast of the new building from the expenses you have made a sum of a litle over Tls. 1,000, which L consider highly creditable. We have the sium of Tls. 21,700 issued in debentures for the cost of the new building. That with the sum of Tis, 9,400 at your credit will give, I hope, sufficient funds for the erection of your new Boat House. There is another sum of Tis. SOU) promised, by friends which can be collected if necessary. Bevides that we must take into consideration the sv of the old Bo.t House, Timber is expensive just new, and no one can deny that that of which the old Boat House is built is wellscasoned, (Laughter). With regard to the handling of these debentures I niay inform you that Mir. Bell, of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, has kindly taken care of the money and will see to the payment of the first yevr's interest which becomes due in July, The Committee thought it best to put this matter into the hands of a willing member who understands money matters. With these few remarks I will propose that the report and accounts as presented be accepted and passed.
Mr. E.T. Byrne seoondet this resolution.
Mr. A. L. Anderson said that with wrd to the item—repairing and varnish-jing boats, Tls. 474—he thought theCommittee would do well to consider the int as to whether it would not >be fter to pay x Cantonese' carpenter by the month for repairing and varnishing during the winter months. He would then be available for mending broken stretchers and other small jobs during the rowing season. He also thought that there
