There was no change in th.- number of ports, for while Eh ngsha appears in the list fur the first time, umchuk has disappeared. For new port, Changsha gives a very fur return, but part of it is at the "xpense of Yochou. Of the thirty ports, seventeen did better than in 1903, but thirteen showed a falling~" ff, these latt: r being Chefoo, Yochou, Kiukiang, Nanking, Chinkiang, Hangchow, Ningp", Wenchow, Sau. tuao, Foochow, Any, Swatow, a:.d Pakhoi. On the other hand Shang: hai alone shows a gain of nearly 'T's. Tis, 900,000, and the sixteen oth r ports more than made up for the deficiencies in the thirteen por's above enumerated, The following table gives the comparative figures for three years Report of Dues and Duties, October-Decem ber Queiter, 1904: Ohinese Ports, Port, 1904. 1903. 1902.

In native sundries, there was a increase in raw cotton and native produce generally, including black and green tea and tobacco, the only marked decline being in rush and straw hats, yellow raw silk, ard black brick tea. There was a large export of Shanghai shirtings, sheet ings, and drills, with a slight decline in Shanghai yarn. Native sundries were exp red freely, though there was a sight decline in goatskins and rugs; there was a very marked increase in sheep's wool. Of transit passes, 3,462 were issued and 144 rendered, against 3,068 and 185 1008,-and- 2,706 an: 207, respectively, in 1902 The tressure ruble shows an import of gold to the value of Hk.
