A Courteous Chi

The same afternoon the oficial took tea vith us'and seemed to take a good deal of pleasure in relating the Woveraor's experi-8S" far as we have observed our very friendly. He has called a number of times; "nce we met bini out in the country, and he alighted from his. cart to greet us, and we have met him.ab the railway several times, where he always takes the initiative and comes forward. and perks to us, always shaking hands, after the foreiga fashion. Io is rumoured that he is to b: changed next month; in fact he told uss" himself. You' wilt remember that he was put into the office here upon the death of the Chen some months ago. Since that time Chéngchou has been made a chilichou, that is, one which governs hsiens, and it seems that our present official is not of high enough rank to hold the place. We shall be very sorry to see him leave.
