28th October.
There was a large attendance at the Race Course this morning, and a keen interest was taken in the work. Czardas was one of the first out, with his owner up, who took him along for a sound mile and a half in 3.313, with a capital last quarter of 30;—tho fastest of the morning. On present form the Marius grey stands a good chance of winning the Leger, and there is no reason why he should not show better form yet. The candidates which Czardas has to count with are those from the Quebec, John Peel, and J.M.D. stabl Cedric was out than his weight up and that after he had finished the gallop his trainer was "all smiles." On the mud course Cotswold went the Leger distance with Mr. Johnstone upon 3.67.3, with a last quarter of 33.4-5 and some of the knowing ones seemed perfectly satisfied. Lavender was to gallop on Sunday morning. Golden Eagle's "onteide chance " is. fair ove.
is time to-day being 4.212, the last stage being galloped in -fine form in 303, but the fact that a boy was up must not be lost sight of.
Of the candidates for the Championship I must again incline to Ard Patrick, who promises to be as fit as over by the time of the races. He did the Championship distance this morning with Zodiac, and Mr. Johnstone put him over it in' 2.53%, last quarter 313. Now that Zambesi has boon scratched, reference to Gadfly. must conclude my remarks concerning the probable runners in the Champions. Mr.
took him to-day for a turn over the distance in 2.52, last quarter 32g, but I have my doubts as to his gotting a place this time.
Roland and Lander went out together for a mile and a quarter in 2.488, last quarter 35; Iron King did the same distance in 2.514, last quarter 344.
Argante was out with Chasseur and the. mile and three-quarters occupied 4.05, last quarter 33.
Bicester galloped nicely for three-quarters in 1,853, his companion, Oakley,
