A feature of the first day's play. in the Open Golf Championship qualifying competition at Sanning-dale to-day was the play of th American, Bobby Jones, who on his first round broke the record for the course with a score of 66.
Melhorn, another Americas, had tantalizing experience. He! was consistently superb in his approach shots but he failed at putting. He finally: broke his putter across Knee and flung the picces to cealdie twenty yards away.
He took 76 strokes for the round.
