The Search in Shaohsing

According to a later dispatch received from Hangchow with regard to the sending of Taotai Chen and troops: to Shaohsing to search the schools there, @ telegram concerning which appeared in these columns yesterday morning, it is stated that this was owing to the receipt by Governor Chang Tseng-yang of anonymous letters declaring that there were firearms in certain schools in Shahsing it would be prudent on the part of the authorities to seize without delay in order to prevent students from using them for revolutionary purposes." This particularly bright Governor, it seems, got scared again, and accontingly sent Chen Tantei post haste to Shaohsing to search for fireanus. Need-Tess to say nothing was found by the troops. Instead, they made such nuisance of themselves that the gentry of the city were forced to telegraph a protest to the Governor. It ix said that some soldiers seeing couple of young scholars run away on their approach at once arrested them on the charge of rebellion (sic). So far nothing incriminating hax as yet been discovered in the schools and domiciles of the teachers of the schools.
