LIFE-SAVING EXTRAORDINARY

What, we believe, must be " unique experience in the annals of life-saving happened recently to a sh traveller in central China, His route lay one day from Nankangfu to Kui over rough mountainous country in the (present) depth of winter. Arrived at the latter place towards midnight, he found that two of his coolies were missing, and started off short-ly after daybreak to find them. They were discovered lying on the path and frozen rigid. There was still life in the bodies, howeve and attempts at resuscitation were successful after a few hours. Our traveller returned to Kuling late in the afternoon, and was there met with the intelligence that two others of his party were dead. Sure enough they were found to all outward ap-Pearances asphyxiated, lying room in which they had gone to sleep with @ charcoal fire barning and all ventilation excluded. Without a moment's hesitation they were bundled out into the snow, ice was put into their mouths, and everything calculated to give a shock to their system was done. Once again his efforts were successful, and our traveller was able to resume his journey with " fall retinue.
