Telegrams from Sangkiang report that a severe fight took place on the 20th instant at the market-town of Fengching between the troops dispatched by Viceroy Tuan Fang and number of robbers under the leadership of Hsia Choh-lin, one of the five notorious robber chiefs in Kashing. The soldiers fought desperately; about twenty bandits, including the leader, were captored. The Prefect of Sungkiang highly commended the sol and presentations, by way of rew: will be made to the provincial authorities.
