To the Editor of the "Nontn-Curwa Darcy News."
Sin,—The following being" matter, consider, of public interest I write as a warning to those who, keeping dogs, have not so far had my experience.
'A little time ago a native boy was, entirely owing to his own fault, bitten rather badly by my dog. The police however ultimately consi it auf. fic T compensated the boy, which I did, but, as they thought the dog "hada shifty look in its eye," T readily accepted their offer and had the animal shifted off to the Hongkew Kennels for examination. Consequently next morning it was taken away in a dog box, duly "washed oat," T take it, "with strong eyes' laid" (vide Clause 6: p 83 of Municipal Report and Budget, etc., ete.) and apon my inquiring of the sergeant how the animal would be treated T was told go well, that very likely it won't want to come away again."
About ten days subsequently, after many inquiries, I was told that the dog: had been certified by the doctor as being "all right" and could be taken ai I accordingly dispatched my house-boy who brought back my dog in the following condition Cost absolutely alive with tick and eaten away in parts, 'The same filthy dirty and stinking'
foully, from the same cause.
Every day since it came home, my boy and coolies have been working hard to free the animal of this filth, and yesterday we got out of its paws some fof these parasites as big as flies. My boy tells me that other dogs he saw at the observation kennels were in a similar condition and he seemed disgusted with experience. The dog was in a fect condition when it left for Hongkew avd the same constable has seen it since and can confirm the foregoing.
How can we expect our Chinewe servants to believe in all our boastings of cleanliness and conform to all the very necessary rales laid down for the prevention of disease, and 90 on, when they get an experience auch as this Tam, et ALE. Leong, 13, Markham Road, Angst 8.
