There are two ways to prevent stockings from laddering from the top, and especially very fine sible evening, stockings.
One is to sew two small loops of tape or ribbon to the top of each stocking and use a ribbon at the end of the el suspender to slip through the loop instead of using a grip clip.
Another method, which is French, is superior.
