Misfortune of Wreck

'The new wharf staging at Hongkew and Hunts was. satisfactorily, compleieg In the early part of Tas but unfortunately we did not htnve' the. full use of our' frontage there until October owing to. the wreck and sinking of the Chinese steamer "Shawshing" just off Hunts 'Wharf on March 4, i934. But for this misfortune the' improvement in our earnings from the working of steamers" would have even more marked.

Tt may be of interest to note that out of our total" frontage at all wharves of 5,587 feet a length over 4,800 feet of concrete wharf staging' is now available for berthing steamers. "The balance of our frontage space, that 19 at Old Ningpo, provided with pontoons which are in a condition to give adequate anc em cient service.

As. regards the current year's working one hesitates to prophesy but it is only to be expected that the present diMlcult period through which we are passing will have its effect fon cargoes arriving in the months to come. I am glad to say, however, that the first few months have shown no falling off. Tt can be said with every confidence that your com~
