The undermentioned banks have been advised—by telegram, that the Eastern Exchange Banks in London have passed a resolution that on and after October 18, 1929 the interest on outward bills from London will be raised to 73 per cent. p.a. for new business, past due bills and renewal of bills maturing on and after that date, Chartered Bank of India, Australia China, Hongkong & Shanghai banking Corporation, Mercantile Bank of Indi: Ltd., P. & O. Banking Corporation, Mitsubishi Bank, Ltd,, National City Bank of New York, Yokohama Specie Bank, Ltd., Banque Belge Pour L'Etranger, Mitsui Bank, Ltd., Bank of Taiwan, Ltd., Sumitomo Bank, Ltd. principally due to stronger local demand for heavy weights, For Whites, in the case of China types of these goods, the chief feature was the distinct improvement in the higher qualities. There Twas some demand from Changsha Dut from other quarters there was little activity. The Korean demand was hardly more than steady. Yegards clearances, these have fallen off.
