Motor Traffic Stopped

A large fleet_of motor buses are waiting on the Hanchung side of the Wei River; the highway has suffered extensively and it will yet be some considerable time before repairs are effected. This river has risen well over the summer level and the section immediately below the city resembles an inland sea. The waters in the main channel roared like an avalanche as successive waves carried trees, boulders and other spoil onward in its course. All the lowlying areas have been flooded and many of the crops swept away The outer part of the city gate tower the south gate has crumbled away and the gate is now closed to traffic. Walls and buildings suffered and everywhere thousands of mud-bricks crumbled back into the bosom of mother earth much to the exasperation of the. owners.
