Two Incidents Mar Solemn Procession in Streets Belgrade, July 29.
Thirty thousand persons, among whom were one of the Regents M Radenko Stankovich, representing ihe King, and many Deputies and Senators, but no members of Government, walked in the cortege which led through the streets of the city to-day following the funeral services for the First Patriarch Varnava, who died on the day the concordat between the Vatican and Yugoslavia was ratified in the Chamber.
All stores and offices were closed and flags flew from all the windo: The immense crowd kneeled and made the sign of the cross as the coffin passed, draped in the standard of the Orthodox Church which had been torn during the scuffes on July,19.
Two incidents marred the funeral prdeession. Several persons were hurt when the crowd went into a panic at about 12,30 o'clock for some unknown reason and charged the cordons of police. About an hour later the cortege was stopped for a few moments-as a group of about 200 persons tried to reach the centre of the city shouting anti-government slogans. The, police calmed this group also.—Havas, ***Earlier report on p. 16.
