On the occasion of an. official arden party, which was attended by a concourse of natives, notables: and officials, Sir Geoffrey Archer; read an important proclamation, which was printed in English and Arabic, and circulated throughout the Sudan, to the effect that a Sudan Defence Force will be formed mediately, and commissions will be offered practically to all serving' officers native of the Sudan. Geoffrey afterwards emphasized the necessity for the opening of a new era of mutual respect and understanding, concentrating on the future prosperity of the Sudan and forgetting past troubles.—Reuter.
