Relies of War

There were gruesome war scenes just beyond MacLeod Road. Dead Chinese soldiers lay near a small field gun blown askew. The Blind European countries were on the boxes, All were subjects for much close-up photography. In that neighbourhood, the houses of Sir Victor Sassoon and Mr. W. J. Hawkings looked outwardly unscathed. The amusing sight of some Japanese soldiers playing what was most unmistakably their very first game of golf greeted the visitors as the cars passed the Hungjao Golf Club whose fairway adjacent to the road looked untouched by defence works.
