Wheelbarrow to Shanghai?

To the Editor of the.

"Nonmi-Cixa Dairy News"

Sin—I have the honour to notify you that yesterday I received an Alimail. loiter from London dated March 1, and postmarked London of some date.

"This communication. is also post marked Canton March 17, and Shanghai March 30. So the' letter took 16 days reaching Canton by alr, and another fortnight arriving here, presumably by wheelbarrow. To get it T had to pay the Post Office 50 cents for postage due, although it already bore English stamps 1/3d., more than a dollar, and was really amped for its size. I suppose due penalty is a cumshaw for the wheelbarrow man, Thave had a lot of experience with alr stuff In this country, foreign and domestic, and I can say that this system as presently worked is ten times as expensive as the ordinary post and much slower too. The writer of this Is a Scot, as may be recognized by the sensitiveness of his feelings, When nowadays the clerk asks If such and such a letter is to be airmailed he obtains the classic reply Shanghai, March 31, No Tur Day.

Text read from the printed page and cleaned; old type leaves the occasional error.
