Because he had had a tooth out, end was not feeling well, a passenger n a car travelling through London wrapped his scarf round his mouth—and was promptly mistaken for a victim of gangsters.
That is the secret behind an agi-dated search of North London roads by police patrol cars.
It was told to the "Daily Herald" by the owner of the car, Mr. Reginal Waites, a Slough factory worker. He was nearly arrested for stealing his own car.
He said, "A friend of my family, Miss Florence Nicholson, who had keen staying with us, decided to return to her home in London.
"I prepared the car, and ry Lrother and two friends, Mr. James Hall and Mr. Alfred Garland, accomrenied Miss Nicholson and me on my journey.
"Mr. Hall was the man who had had a tooth out. When we had atopped Miss Nicholson and were returning through Islington, he was in such pain that he lay down on the rear seat in the car."
