C" Express Breakdown

BUS SERVICE

To the Editor of the "Norru-Cuma Dany News'

Su—May I avail myself of your valuable colums to congratulate the China General Omnibus Ca, Ltd. on their' extraordinary Express "C" Bus service.

"Wishing to save five minutes I boarded the "C" Express at tiffin time to-day instead of the usual "12", We started at 12.10 p.m. exactly, but from the outset some difficulty seemed to be experienced with the engine so that our progress along the Bund was mostly in second gear, which occasloned not a little impatient tooting from the motor trafic which was being held up. These eventually went by, as.also a No. 9 Bus. On Avenue Edward VII we were passed by a second No. 9 Busand when on Avenue Foch a third went sailing gaily by it was cheered to the echo by some of the, I take it, regular travellers to whom the experience appeared to be anything but new. The remarks pass. ed would have been edifying and possibly instructive to a representa-live of the Bus Ca. had one been present. Suggestions ranged from getting out and pushing to mixing a little more gasolene with the air in the carburetter.

Seymour Road was reached in the splendid time of 24 minutes and at Tifeng Road the "Old Horse" finally gave up the struggle and died, the passengers being poured out onto the sidewalk from where they had to make their way home as best they could to a belated lunch.

The Service undoubtedly appears to be a useful one (the bus was full) if it could be relied upon, but to put an "old crock" (the number of the Bus is 51) on for an Express Service would appear to me to be very shortsighted policy on the part of the Bus Ca., especially as 20 cents is charged for any distance.
