Entries Satisfactory for Both Days, February 26 and March 5: Two Steeplechases Each Day By HE entries for the Shanghai Paper Hunt Club's annual race meeting are most satisfactory on both days—February 26 and March 5. It is always a sad day for paperhunters when they have to turn their attention to racing for although they have several months of the Sport of Kings in front of them it means that their fun in the country is over and it will be nine months before they are following paper again.
Another season is over—it is very improbable that there wil another hunt—and it has been one of the shortest on record, only four hunts having been held. Luckily there have been lots of enjoyable rides in the country and the hunts that have been held were all excellent ones and the finishes of the last three—Light Horse Jumps, Sparke's Pit and Sa Ka Dong Line—were a welcome change from the usual well known finishes.
Looking back over the records since 1900 it is seen that it is seldom that the umber of hunts in a season does not run into double figures, but there were only two in 1918/1919.
Morgan and Mrs. Andrews are to be congratulated on winning their 504] Pink Coats and once again the thanks of all the hunting community are due to The Master and Stewards for the good sport they have provided under such trying circumstances, Now we must get busy with the racing end of the game and, leaving 'Ching' with a free hand to give all the latest information about the flat, turn to the steeplechases. is likely to be slowly which run, should suit him.
Going Slow, Keep's mount, is sure to start a hot favourite and it is hard to find anything to beat him. He did not start in a steeplechase last year, but in 1936 he was beaten two lengths and half a length, in a field of twenty three starters, in the Jorrocks Cup, and shortly afterwards he was second to Sammy over nearly the National Distance. In this race he conceded Sammy a lot of weight and his form in his only two starts makes him appear a certain winner.
