"THE MYSTERIOUS AVENGER"

Charles Starrett "Joan Perry George Cheesboro Now being screened at the Metropol Theatre is "The Mysterious Avenger," the second of a series of Peter B. Kyrie Wild Western thrillers produced in 1936 by Columbia Pictures, in which Mr. Charles Starrett takes the leading part. This is an exciting story of the Texas Rangers in action in plenty of rough-riding, adventure ous episodes against a gang of cattle rustlers in the plains and mountains of Texas. The atmosphere of the Wild West and wide open spaces is perfectly captured in a manner that will appeal to all lovers of this type of film. Gun-play, dare-devil riding, stampeding steers, rough looking cowboys and a fair share of what is now known as "hill-billy" music, all assist in making an interesting picture which, while simple in the telling, is well produced and admirably photographed. Mr, Starrett, a likeable personality, portrays a role that is full of action in a manner that is quite engaging, whilst Miss Joan Perry, an attractive newcomer who plays opposite him, supplies the romantic angle to the film and proves herself a talented and versatile artist.

Five shorts which take up half the duration of the programme are more than good and are well worth the price of admission. Altogether a hundred minutes of worth while
