Washington, Aug. 14, A prediction that President Roose-volt would issue a statement on the Sino-Japanese hostilities at Shanghai and vicinity on Monday or Tuesday was made to-day By Senator Key Pittman, Democrat of Nevada and Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Inasmuch as Senator Pittman is generally regarded as the Adminis-{ration's spokesman on foreign policy, his prediction was regarded as a vir! tual" announcement, The Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, to-day announced that the Embassies at Nanking and Tokyo had made repeated representations 10 China and Japan respectively to retrain from endangering foreigners in China.—United Press.
