Golden Wedding of

FAMOUS PLAYER

First Arsenal Captain Goes on the Air London, Mar. 5.

On the day after celebrating his golden wedding, Mr, John William Julian, captain of the first professional Arsenal team, had the satisfaction of seeing his old club beat Derby County 3-0. Mr. and Mrs. Julian, with their family, were the guests of the Arsenal at Highbury.

To his great pleasure, Mr, Julian, now 72 years of age, was asked to take part in a London weekly broadcast series "In Town To-night," after the match.

"It was the biggest occasion of my life," Mr. Julian declared after the broadcast. "That broadcast meant more to me than any of the eleven different medals I have won. But I would rather play in the F, A. Cup final than go through the ordeal again.

Mr. Julian played for Boston Town before going to Arsenal, for whom he played for two seasons as an amateur before the club became professional. Then he went to Luton "Town, to the Spurs, and to Dartford Town, and after 21 seasons of first-class football he was a coach in Holland for six years, "Gates of fourteen and fifteen thousand were considered splendid for the Arsenal in my day," Mr. Julian said. "Footballers did not have an easy time. There were few professionals who did not have some other work during the week, but we enjoyed our game."—Reuter.
