A gratifying feature of the afternoon was ihe inclusion of three races run over a longer distance than a mile and a quarter. The fourth race was over a mile and a half and the field kept well bunched, together for the first mile, when Going Wrong took the lead, Viekylight coming up beside him as they entered the straight and, as the former weakened, Clark challenged the latter strongly on Felixstowe just getting the better in a very tight finish. This started a sensational run of luck for stables connected with the Hongkong Bank as Mr. Henchman later had three seconds whilst Messrs. Bubbling Well and Wayfoong both had win-mers, Holy was made favourite in the fifth race but could not get placed, the race going to R. B. Moller on the second favourite—Fancylight—by a head from that good looking chestnut Ranelagh, who seems none the worse for the races he has had since being fired and does not appear to have lost his speed.
Gram rushed Dolce Farniente into a larg lead immediately the tapes went up in the sixth race and he maintained this until entering the straight, where Woodbridge and Don Patricio passed him, the latter, ridden by Parkin, going on to win by an easy half length to pay the good price of $84.20 Punters made no mistake in making Merry Jester the next favourite as he won the seventh race all right, ridden by Pote Hunt, carrying well over half the tickets taken on the pari mutuel.
"Unlucky Night Express There was an upset in the eighth event when Kangar, very well ridden by Keep, just got up on the post to beat unlucky Night Express, who had led all the way, by a head. The favourite, Magic Eve was a length away, third.
The start of the mile and three for where an immediate lead, Duke of Cornwall was left many lengths. It was an interesting race to watch as the field, with the exception of Cantom, who was tailed off, kept well together until half way down the straight when Receivership went on to win by a length and a half from the favourite Lal Bagh.
Then came the sensation of the afternoon, Morgand's win on Kanoungtoe, who won the eleventh race by a neck from the favourite Bombardment, to pay the sensational odds of over a hundred to one. Bombardment was made a hot favourite and the public were quite right as he would certainly have won had Lok set about him a bit earlier as he was going better than anything else all the way.and was travelling twice as fast as the winner when they passed the post.
Artimid was the best supported int the last race, but he ran most disappoint ingly, the race going to The Cosmopolitan, ridden by Keep. For once the pony really tried when his rider called upon him and he produced a fine burst of speed at the finish to score a popular win for the Young Bankers, by three quarters of a length.
