Although the first half was scoreless, play was not without action. From the initial bully the married men attacked first. Essen and Guenter showed early promise by their fine thrusts which were frustrated only by lock of finish. The unmarried were, however, not too slow to get their share and the bail immediately travelled up and down the field at a fast clip. In these exchanges Rodde and Schroeder gave a sterling display for they held back a superior forward line in a successful manner. Soensksen tried several fine attempts which ended with fruitless corners.
At the.20-minute mark, Jessen missed a glorious chance to gain the lead. He was a trifle too slow to shoot after he had carried the ball to within three yards from the goal. His opposing backs tackled him in the nick of time which forced the raider to shoot in the wrong direction. Towards the end of this period Wetzel fied a hard shot from a corner but Tollens effected a clever save.
