Sm,—Kindly permit me to add to your short sketch of Dr. Herman C. Liu's life, as it appeared in your esteemed paper, a few facts not mentioned, Dr. Liu received his primary education in a Baptist Mission School at Hanyang, Hupeh, his birthplace. As a lad of 11 or 12, he was sent to Kiukiang, where he entered the Primary Department of William Nash College. Here he studied nearly eight years, leaving a year before his graduation to specialise in chemistry in Soochow University, preparatory for a medical course in Chicago University. During his years at Kiukiang he became a decided Christian and endeared himself to his foreign and Chinese teachers by his conscientiousness and sunny disposition.

While a trident at Chicago University; upon consultation with his former teacher, Dr. C. F. Kupfer, he changed to the Teacher's Course. He was a member of the William Nash College Alumni Association, Shanghai, taking an active interest in his former school, A FRIEND, Shanghai, Apr. 8.
