Unique Equipment

The visitor to the factory—and there have been hundreds of thousands since it was first opened—first sees the jetty. At one end he sees raw materials being brought in; at the other end are the results—new Ford cars and Fordson trucks and tractors being shipped to the ends of the world.

Like everything that happens in this works, operations on the jetty &re carried out at astonishing speed and yet with no haste. Raw materials such as coal, sand and iron ore are unloaded at the rate of 600 tons every hour, by means of two gigantic electrical unloaders which are unique in Europe, The materials are weighed as they are unloaded, and whisked away in specially constructed rail "trucks carrying 50 tons to a storage yard with accommodation for no less than 140000 tons of raw materials.

Similarly speedy methods are being employed at the other end of the jetty, where the finished vehicles are run rapidly abroad ships which resemble great floating garages, on which 300 cars can be parked at a time, Next comes into view what appears to be a medley of buildings, many of them of amazing bulk and weird outlines, which go to make this one €f the most self-contained works in the world.
